This month we are featuring volunteer extraordinaire, Jen Mazur. Jen has been an Extreevaganza Ambassador for the past 5 years, and her infectious spirit, kindness, and dedication shine in all she does for our community. We are extremely grateful for Jen!
Here’s what Jen had to say about her experience with the OCF.
1. What attracted you to become involved with the OCF?
In January 2014, my family moved to Gaylord, Michigan, from Illinois. When we first moved here, Christie Purdue introduced me to Dana Bensinger, and after a long conversation to better understand what the OCF is, I knew in my heart this is where I needed to be. I knew I would enjoy volunteering for this organization and giving back to the community that has supported so many.
2. In your opinion, what is the most important work this organization does?
The OCF works with the community to raise funds to help support the needs that arise. Without the OCF and its donors, our community would not be where it is today. We have survived a pandemic and a tornado where so many resources have been needed. In my opinion, The OCF has done a tremendous job supporting local needs.
3. What’s it like to volunteer for the OCF?
Volunteering for the OCF has been so rewarding. Being a part of raising funds to better our community is nothing short of amazing. The events that I have participated in are so well-organized, and the staff works as a true team.
4. What do you hope the organization will achieve soon? In the long-term?
I really hope the organization can raise a significant amount of money in the next couple of years. This will help financially support the future of our community.
5. Does anyone in your life play a role in supporting your involvement? In providing inspiration?
My husband, Matt, has always been a huge supporter when it comes to the committees I serve on and the organizations I enjoy volunteering with.
6. What do you wish other people knew about OCF?
It would be amazing if more people in our community understood what the OCF does and how impactful this organization is.
7. Do you have a message to share?
As some of you know, our son Nicholas passed away in March at the young age of 13. Knowing we could start a fund in his honor through the OCF has helped our hearts tremendously. The money we have raised to help support the needs that Nick would have loved to support will soon become a reality.
Jen’s Biography: I was born and raised in the south suburbs of Illinois. I moved to Gaylord 9 years ago along with my husband, Matt, and our three children, Natalie, Nick, and Noah. Prior to moving to Michigan, I was a school social worker. Once we moved here, I was fortunate enough to be a stay-at-home mom and volunteer in the community that I have grown to love and now consider home. Otsego county is an amazing place to raise our family!
