This month we feature Wendy Huston in our Volunteer Spotlight. Wendy is a part of the OCF Investment Committee, which ensures the financial sustainability of our foundation. Wendy was born in Harper Woods, MI, yet her parents relocated to Johannesburg when she was two. Wendy’s family, which included her parents and her two younger sisters, moved all around Otsego County. She graduated from Gaylord Community Schools in 1992 and earned her Bachelor of Business Administration from Davenport University six years later. Wendy worked full time as an oil and gas accountant while pursuing her degree.
Wendy met her husband Shawn in 1999. They married a year later, and Wendy joined Shawn as third generation owners of Huston Real Estate, a 76-year-old company. The Huston family are firm believers in giving back to their community. Wendy sits on various boards in addition to her role at the OCF. She is Secretary of the Johannesburg Lewiston Area Schools Board of Education, Trustee of Cheboygan-Otsego-Presque Isle Intermediate School District, and Treasurer of the Lewiston Downtown Development Authority. This sense of community involvement is not lost on Wendy and Shawn’s children, Avery (18) and Parker (16). They are both involved in school activities & sports, robotics, and community & volunteer groups. Avery is the President of YAC and a student member of OCF Board of Directors.
In her “spare” spare time, Wendy enjoys boating, traveling, and reading.
To get to know more about Wendy, here she is in her own words:
What do you love about Otsego County?
Boy, this is a great question!
I have such fond memories of events and activities that I participated in as a kid, like being in the Alpenfest parade. Some of my favorite people in the whole world live in Gaylord. I’ve made so many good friends through school, work, and volunteering.
What are your hopes for Otsego County?
My hopes for Otsego County are the same as I’ve had for years — continued growth and success!
What are you looking forward to working with the OCF?
I look forward to continuing my work with the Investment Committee as managing funds is equally as important as raising them.
I’ve also been a past ambassador for the 100+ Women Who Care Event a few times – and I know I will again in the future.
I will continue to support OCF as I have with my talents, time, and treasures.
Thank you, Wendy, for your dedication and support to the OCF!
